Hey Girl Up! My name is Samavi Rafique and I’m a junior at Lincoln East High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. I am incredibly thrilled to be a part of Girl Up in Nebraska! I first got involved with Girl Up Lincoln Public Schools in 2017 when I heard about the new chapter starting in my school district. Girl Up’s values resonated with me immediately, and I found their mission of empowering girls and standing up for women’s rights to coincide with my own. As the current president of Girl Up LPS and co-president for the Girl Up Nebraska Coalition, I have seen firsthand the power of sisterhood in achieving gender equality.
Outside of Girl Up, I compete in my school’s congressional debate team, and enjoy volunteering for organizations that work to make a positive change. Being a part of the Girl Up Nebraska Coalition is truly a privilege, and I look forward to spreading Girl Up’s message across our state and empowering more girls to make a difference in their own lives!
