Hi!  My name is Avalena, and I’m a senior in the International Baccalaureate Program at Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Nebraska.  This is my second year being involved with Girl Up, and my first as part of the State Coalition. I’ve also lead a club at Elliott Elementary and started a Girl Up club at Lincoln High (we work with The Pad Project to eradicate period poverty and elevate financial mobility for women and girls in Indian communities).  I’ve done many extra-curricular activities over my time at Lincoln High, but right now, I’m in IB, on the Pomalinks dance team, NHS president, and co-vice president of Girl Up LHS. In addition, I’ve worked with Ina Bhoopalam as a founding team member and curriculum developer for her non-profit, Dream Equal. In my free time, I study French, I dance, and I read about Medieval history.  I’m thrilled to be a State Officer this year, and I can’t wait to do great work as Co-Director of Global Relations and Expansion!
