Hello, my name is Mya Miller and I am I am a Senior at Lincoln East High School. I am beyond excited to be the Director of Design for the Girl Up Nebraska Coalition this 2019-2020 school year. I became involved with Girl Up during my Sophomore year and have fallen in love with its goal of Gender Equality and its student led nature. I started in the Elementary School team and taught girl empowerment programs to third through fifth graders at Pyrtle, Holmes, and Riley Elementary schools in Lincoln. I loved being part of the solution and helping young girls realize their worth. Through these programs I have also grown as a leader and as an advocate, speaking out for women’s and girls’ rights.
Outside of Girl Up, I am President of East High’s Art Club, I am a founding member of and Director of Curriculum for Dream Equal, and I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and my guinea pigs, Furzy and Sunny.
This year I hope to be able to combine my love for art and design with my passion for women’s rights. I am looking forward to creating a future where we can all feel important, valuable, and empowered together!
